Jesus said: "To the extent that you did it to one of these brothers of mine, even the least of them, you did it to me" (Matthew 25:40 NASB). We believe that a church ministry should not just talk about Christian faith, but we should live our faith.

Cedar Hill Baptist Cedar Hill Baptist Church SanctuaryChurch History

Cedar Hill Baptist Church was founded on September 4,1960 as Kettering Mission and held its first worship service in the Kettering school on Arlington Avenue. Rev. J. D. Walters served as the first pastor. The first baptismal service was held on March 31, 1961.

Rev. Ray Kennedy became our pastor on February 18, 1961, and land was purchased for the current church site and construction begun that summer.

The congregation moved in on August 6, 1961 and met in the basement until the sanctuary was completed. In December, the name of the church was changed to Cedar Hill Baptist Church.

The church membership voted to join with American Baptist Churches of Ohio in 1962, and we remain an American Baptist congregation. We have taken issue with some very liberal views adopted by American Baptist Churches - U.S.A. in recent years and do not fellowship with them currently.

Rev. David White served as interim pastor until Rev. James Whitley was called to the pastorate in 1963 and served until 1966.

Several pastors have served over the years, and our current pastor is Rev. Thomas Beeman (see story below).

Since 2001, the church has undergone many changes. Pastor Beeman, a retired building contractor, along with Bob Maines, totally remodeled the sanctuary. The parking lot was paved, a steeple was added along with a new lighted church sign. Upstairs restrooms were constructed along with a wheel chair ramp, and a new office for the pastor was added at the same time.

Cedar Hill Baptist Church called our current pastor on March 4, 2001, and he continues to serve. Although he was raised in a church, Pastor Tom stopped attending church when he graduated from high school and began life's journey.

He has served, over the years, in several professions. He was an Ohio State Trooper for 8 years, a sales manager for an insurance company, a manager of Bob Evans Restaurants and finally settled into a profession by owning and operating "Wood Projects" construction company in and around Columbus, Ohio, for 20 years. In 1986, he came to know Christ as his personal Savior and felt that God was calling him into the preaching ministry. In 1987, he began attending Boyce Bible School in Columbus and graduated in 1991 at the age of 45. At one time, he attended Bible college, served as a pastor and continued to operate his construction company all at the same time.

He has served as the pastor of Sparta Advent Christian Church and Cedar Hill Baptist Church.

In 1994, he left the preaching ministry and became a music director at First Baptist Church in Gahanna until Cedar Hill extended a call to preach in 2001.

Pastor Tom is a passionate advocate for education and says that "everyday is a school day", and we need to learn something new every day. He attended Columbus State Community College in 1998-1999, taking computer and math courses (he likes Algebra - ugh!). He recently completed over 80 hours of study in Website design and owns several online businesses. is the flagship of his websites.

Pastor Tom, and his wife Leigh, have 4 grown children and 10 grandchildren. He and Leigh raised one of those grandchildren. Pastor Tom takes great pride in saying that he had the wonderful privilege of teaching his grandson in school (Bishop was homeschooled) for 10 years, teaching him to ride a bicycle, shoot a gun, swim, hit a golf ball and drive a car.
